Igor Burdenko is the founder and chairman of the Burdenko Water and Sports Therapy Institute. He has worked as a rehabilitation and training consultant to numerous athletes from the NBA, NFL, NHL, US and Russian Olympic Teams, top international dancers and figure skaters. Educated in Russia, Dr. Burdenko received his Ph.D. in Sports Medicine and M.S. in Physical Education. Dr. Burdenko has authored over one hundred articles on physical education, training, and conditioning. He published three books in former Soviet Union and four books in the USA. He presents seminars, lectures throughout the world, Certification Courses in the Burdenko Method and consults on the design and implementation of therapeutic and sports facilities. More than fifty years of experience and research have made Dr. Burdenko one of the world’s leading authorities on the use of water and land exercise programs for rehabilitation, conditioning and training.

Taylor Kruse received his undergraduate degree in Physical Education with a Health Minor from Plymouth State University in 2005 and has been actively continuing his education and working as a movement educator for the past decade. During this time Taylor has acquired Master status in the Burdenko Method. Additionally, Taylor is also a specialist in Resistance Stretching - an innovative fascial manipulation technique that enhances mobility and the quality of ones tissue. Taylor has a passion for educating the younger population on how to move better and take care of their bodies.

Tom is currently the Athletic Director and Alpine Program Director at the Waterville Valley Snowsports Academy in New Hampshire. WVA uses the Burdenko Method extensively in it’s training of young athletes. Tom also teaches Undergraduate and Graduate courses in the Burdenko Mehtod at Plymouth State University. Tom has two degrees from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He has a B.Sc. in Physical Education and a M.Ed. in Exercise Physiology. Tom is a member of the McGill Athletic Hall of Fame. Tom is most proud of his Masters’ Certification in the Burdenko Method. As an athlete Tom was a professional in two sports. As a coach, Tom has over 40 years of experience and has coached at three Olympics Games. Tom has practiced the Burdenko Method for twenty-two years. “The Burdenko Method has been a God sent for me and my family. It has saved me from cancer, it has kept me young and it has helped heal my wife’s back problems. I do not dare to think where I would be without the Burdenko Method both personally and professionally. I truly love using this Method to help people get healthy and to help them to perform better.”

Joe Carroll is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and co-owns Cape Cod Rehab with his wife, Kathy. Obtaining his BS in Physical Therapy from Boston University, MS in Management from Lesley University and recently his Doctorate from EIM Institute of Health Professions, he is a lifelong learner. One of the first PT’s in the state to be certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist he is also a Master Instructor in the Burdenko Method. During his career he has been called upon to work at Sports Medicine events beginning with the 1984 Los Angeles Olympiad, World Junior Baseball Championships where he supervised the Medical Coverage for the event on Cape Cod and at Boston’s Fenway Park, US Figure Skating Championships, Babe Ruth World Series and numerous Road Races. His focus has always been on working with individual patients from all walks of life, athletes and non-athletes from the little leagues to Major Leagues and helping them overcome their injury and return to their sport or activity. 3 time Boston Marathon finisher, he continues to run half marathons and knows what it takes to help athletes get to the level they desire. "Participation is the key, and no amount of physical activity is too little. I believe in physical fitness and sports as a way to improve our quality of life, both mentally and physically. In dealing with injury, the body has amazing recuperative powers, especially when we believe in ourselves and we see ourselves achieving our goals. I see examples every day of people overcoming great odds and doing things someone has told them they will never be able to do again."

Paul started working with Dr. Burdenko as a licensed Physical Therapist in the summer of 1997 specializing in the Burdenko Method of rehabilitation, training and conditioning. In 2002 he started working for Burdenko Certification Programs teaching the Burdenko Method to hundreds of therapists, trainers, physicians, athletes and other health professionals to improve their quality of work and the lives of those they help. Along the way he has helped Dr. Burdenko with the continued development of the Burdenko Method and has been helping to rehabilitate professional athletes, dancers and clients ranging from 5 years old to 92 years young. He remains as in integral part of the Burdenko Method and continues to work alongside with Igor and all the members of the The Burdenko Water and Sports Therapy Faculty.

Dr. Rick McAvoy, PT, DPT, CSCS has specialized in Aquatic Physical Therapy for over 25 years. In 1988 he received an Associates Degree in Physical Therapy from Becker College in Worcester, MA. After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy in 1992 from the University of Connecticut he went on to achieve a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Franklin Pierce University in 2007. Rick is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He has invented aquatic exercise equipment and developed exercise software which sells both nationally and internationally. He is a published author and researcher in the field of Aquatic Therapy and Conditioning. Rick is the Aquatic Coordinator at Rehab 3 Center for Aquatics, an outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine facility in New Hampshire. He teaches the benefits of aquatic physical therapy and conditioning at both The University of New Hampshire in the Department of Kinesiology and Franklin Pierce University in the Doctoral of Physical Therapy program where he serves as an adjunct faculty member. He is a Master Instructor in the Burdenko Method, a specialized form of dynamic aquatic and land-based techniques. Rick lectures nationally throughout the year teaching the benefits of Aquatic Therapy and Conditioning to health care practices and athletic institutions.

Lisa Illg, PT, Aq, is a graduate of LSUMC-School of Allied Health Professionals with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. She has extensive outpatient experience and a specialty in aquatic therapy. She is affiliated with Aquatic Therapy University as the Alaska Campus Director and is a credentialed ATU Aquaticist Instructor. She is also affiliated with Burdenko Water & Sports Therapy Institute as a Master Certified Instructor for the Burdenko Method. Aquatic Empowerment LLC, an Alaskan company with a mobile platform concept, was formed by Lisa for the purpose of providing aquatic based continuing education courses throughout Alaska.

I believe that rehabilitation, conditioning, and training methods work best when combined. With this conviction, I always blend these approaches seamlessly. Ever the optimist, I love solving problems, finding solutions, and helping people who come to me with these words: “I’ve seen everyone, nothing has worked, no one can help me.” Time and time again, I have successfully helped individuals recover a greater quality of life, improve themselves, and reach their goals. I'm a Certified Burdenko Method Master Instructor. This is a unique rehabilitation, conditioning, and training method developed by Dr Igor Burdenko, which makes comprehensive use of land and water based exercise programs to help clients. I now belong to a select group who have the privilege to share this methodology with other professionals in the therapeutic and fitness industry. I have attained the level of Black Belt in BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu). I'm actively competing and represent Brazilian Top Team, a world renowned BJJ organization.
