Conditioning
Water and Land Exercises
3 PROGRESSIVE LEVELS: Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced

Our strongest belief is that people only play sport(s) instead of combining sports and conditioning. As a result , people have a tremendous amount of injuries and frustrations. You cannot succeed in any activity without developing the basics of human performance. The basics of human performance are qualities for your everyday life and sports: balance, flexibility, coordination, endurance, speed, and strength. We offer conditioning program based on the Burdenko Method that develops all of these six essential qualities, by challenging center of gravity and center of buoyancy.

The Burdenko Method is based on a scientific approach and more than 40 years of extensive experience working with a broad base of people. It is not just a set of exercises, it is a system. It is properly structured programs, consisting of combination of water and land exercises, based on three progresssive levels, where an individual can see his/her progress, test him/herself, adjust the conditioning program in accordance with the progress and get the results. This program has been successfully implemented all over the world! The Burdenko Method teaches exercises in the water without gravitation and master them on the land. The approach is functional – you can excel in everyday life activities as well as playing sports without injuries.

One simple exercise technique cannot improve your physical condition. We individualize your program specifically for you, based on your present condition, age and goals. There is a tremendous demand in a conditioning program, which one can do on his/her own. This program is implemented either by Dr. Burdenko or an Exercise Physiologist who is certified and has extensive experience in conditioning programs.

Water & Land Therapy
What is the difference between water and physical therapy?
Physical therapy is conducted by individuals, which hold either a Bachlor’s or a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy. On the other hand, water therapy can only be conducted by physical therapist with specialized training in water therapy.

What is water therapy?
Dating back at least to the Roman Empire, water has been used as a medium for healing. While in those times mineral pools were places the elite bathed to ease their ailments, today’s pool are used for an entirely different kind of water therapy. The term water therapy refers the implementation of therapeutic exercise in a fluid environment. Water provides an environment in which individuals can perform movements which would be impossible or painful if attempted on land. For this reason, balance training, range of motion exercise, biomechanical training, strengthening and gait training can be initiated immediately in the rehabilitation process.

Why choose water therapy?
Water is a unique environment in which the effects of gravity are minimized and effects of buoyancy take over. This allows individuals to use the water to assist, support, or resist their movements at a pace they can tolerate. The environment allows for non weight-bearing and partial weight-bearing exercise. Exercises in the vertical position promote traction (increasement of space between joints while decreasing tension), body awareness, postural control and movement patterns which have carryover to activities of daily living. An added benefit is that water therapy involves use of the entire body, not just the injured part, thereby enhancing overall conditioning. An educated practitioner will instruct these individuals in a progression of exercises which safely address their specific limitations and goals. Water is also a great medium for conditioning and training whether for general health or particular sport activity. A rehabilitation provider should be able to instruct you in post-rehab programs or direct you to an Exercise Physiologist who can implement your conditioning/training programs.

Who can provide water therapy?
Unlike the terms physical therapy, massage therapy and occupational therapy, the term water therapy is not controlled or regulated by any governing body. For this reason anyone can claim to offer “water therapy”. It is recommended that you investigate anyone providing “water therapy” to ensure you will be seen only by individuals educated in biological and movement sciences, human pathology and exercise principals. Water therapy may be considered an entity of physical therapy practice if provided by a licensed practitioner. Physical therapy, including water-based programs, is reimbursed by most insurance providers.

What kind of conditions can water therapy benefit?

Osteoarthritis Fibromyalgia Stroke
Rheumatoid Arthritis Low Back Pain Head Injury
Joint Replacement Surgery Tendinitis Spinal Cord Injury
Arthroscopic Surgery Bursitis Parkinson’s
Joint Reconstruction Surgery Idiopathic Joint Pain Multiple Sclerosis
Scoliosis Balance Disorders Sprains and Strains
What are the restriction and/or precautions to water therapy?
Bowel/bladder incontinence
Skin diseases
Open wounds
High fever
When prohibited by physician orders
Massage Therapy
MASSAGE THERAPY

“Massage is the new health treatment in town. Athletes use it. Doctors prescribe it. Lawyers, social workers, artists, computer programmers, stock brokers, plumbers and your neighbor all benefit from it.”

– Health Magazine

What kinds of massage can I get?

Swedish massage is what many people think of when massage is mentioned. It uses long light strokes, deep kneading, small friction-type motions, light tapping, and movement of the joints. The list of other specialized techniques is long. Ask your massage therapist to explain any other techniques she or he uses.

How long is a massage?

A half-hour can be an excellent introduction to massage, with plenty of time for a partial massage, such as back, neck and shoulders or legs and feet.

An hour is the most common length. This is enough time for a deeply relaxing full body massage, or a more in-depth treatment on a particular area, for instance back, neck and shoulders.

One and a half hours is enough time for a full body massage along with special attention to a problem area.
